Beyond Nature

Simona Ragazzi's Beyond Nature is a provocative reflection on the interaction between biotechnology and the natural environment, inviting viewers to question the limits and implications of human interference in nature.

Through ceramic sculptures reproducing genetically modified plants, the artist explores the potential and ambiguities of a world where genetic manipulation challenges natural cycles.

The surprising and ironic creations present plant varieties that give rise to unexpected fruits: chocolates, eggs, and tortellini, but also everyday objects like jars of hazelnut spread and tennis balls.

This distortion of botanical reality is not only an act of aesthetic transgression, but a symbolic gesture that reflects on the paradox of a science that transforms nature into a human product, distancing itself from its original essence. This distortion, in fact, raises questions about our understanding of biology and the disruptions that genetic engineering imposes on natural rhythms, often perceived as untouchable.

Beyond the playful and imaginative surface of the works, Beyond Nature invites a deeper reflection on the growing invasiveness of scientific and technological practices. The artist not only questions the ethics of biological manipulation, but also interrogates its ecological, moral, and social repercussions. In an era where genetic engineering, biotechnology, and industrial choices are intertwined, the project highlights the risk of a progressive disconnect between humanity and nature, raising questions about the future of our relationship with the environment.

Ragazzi's work does not simply represent the present, but also serves as a warning of the dangers of a future in which human intervention could compromise the ecological balance. In a world where natural laws seem to be increasingly subverted to satisfy human needs, Beyond Nature seeks to foster critical awareness, inviting the viewer to reflect on the choices that shape our relationship with the natural world.
